Hello Everyone,
I am a self taught jewelry designer whose design sense is greatly influenced by my Haitian background as I am the second of four children by two amazing Haitian parents who migrated to the U.S. many years ago. In addition to my cultures Haitian French & Indian, several other colorful cultures such as Native American, Brazilian, Mexican, French and African just to name a few, also greatly influence my work. I also attribute the manifestation and constant development of my unlimited creativity to my wonderful practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism.
My interest in jewelry design began about thirteen years ago. Working for a wonderful woman who ran her own business selling her wholesale and handmade jewelry in flea markets throughout NYC.
She loved my work ethic so much that she would reward me with great tips and lots of great jewelry. At the time I was employed during the week doing office work and worked for her on the weekends.
After a few months of working for her I was injured in an automobile accident and had to leave my full time job. However I continued to sell jewelry at the fleamarkets on the weekends while going through physical therapy a few days a week.
One afternoon, one of our clients came by and asked if I could repair a necklace she had purchased from us. Without hesitation I said "sure" come back in an hour and I'll have it ready for you. Without prior knowledge of jewelry design or repair I dug out my employers jewelry tools and repaired the necklace for our client.
My employer was so pleased that she gave me the tools I used to repair the piece as gifts of appreciation (she was always so humble, though a great designer herself). That night I went home and began taking apart many of the pieces she had given to me as gifts and created my own unique designs. I wore them to work and she would ask me display them at work for sale along with her pieces. To my amazement every piece sold at various fleamarkets and different venues. I will always treasure this experience as it has led me to developing such a wonderful skill.
